A SPECIAL PLACE TO STAY IN LONDON
113 Pepys Road, London, SE14 5SE
Anne Marten is Chinese, born and brought up in Sarawak, Malaysia and has lived in London for
many years. She is well-travelled and a trained Cordon Bleu cook. She has worked in broadcasting,
travel, fashion and the Confederation of British Industry. She loves entertaining and is passionate
about food, wine, orchids, museums, opera, foreign travel, gardens and a good game of bridge.
Her home is a semi-detached Victorian family house which has been beautifully refurbished and
redecorated and brought up to date with modern technology. Wireless internet access is available
for guests. The use of a laptop is also available.
The house is situated on a hill and overlooks Telegraph Hill Park, the first landscaped park
of its kind in South East London with 100 year-old oaks and other fine trees. At night, there
is a stupendous view of twinkling London lights. The house is very welcoming, filled with fresh
flowers and orchids, batik and other paintings and beautiful furniture.
The elegant bedrooms have been specially designed with comfort in mind. They are luxurious,
elegantly furnished and the comfortable beds are made up with crisp, starched linen.
A television set, tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water, both still and sparkling
are offered to our guests. Luxurious bath sheets, the best soaps and a hair drier are also
on offer in our sparkling bathrooms.
The dining room is quite special and it has been successfully used as a small meeting room
for business guests. Capacity for 12 persons. We can also cater for private dinners by prior arrangement.
The French windows from the dining room open on to a mature garden, designed and laid out
by Anne's late husband, Tim, a great gardener, over 30 years ago. It has two majestic Magnolia
Grandiflora producing white saucer-like flowers from June to November, a catalpa with delicate
white flambeaux in July and a 25 foot Bay tree. There are also vibrant camellias. There is a patio
with table and chairs for sitting out in summer, surrounded by containers holding a wealth of flowers,
spring bulbs and lilies. A lure for garden lovers.
Please note that this is a no-smoking household.
